Jamey Petree was a standout dual sport athlete at Utica High School. Petree turned down a number of NCAA Division I soccer scholarship offers to accept a basketball scholarship at Iowa Central College. Following his time in Iowa, Petree returned to Detroit to run the basketball program at Perfecting Church.

While at Perfecting Church, Petree made a name for himself in player development and the demand for his services grew and his Get Skillz Basketball Training Company was formed in 2002. Petree’s unique ability to come up and demonstrate drills for players is incredible. Petree’s ability to communicate and listen to what the player and parent want is comforting, refreshing, insightful and leaves them with a clear plan to improve toward there goal. Petree’s ability, experience and approach has now worked for over 15,000 players that have been trained at Get Skillz with over 800 of those pupils moving on to the collegiate ranks and Pro level from 2002 – Current. Numerous teams trained by Petree at all levels of basketball have gone on to win championships.

Petree has also trained NBA lottery pick and BIG EAST Player of the Year Wesley Johnson (Syracuse University). Johnson is currently playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. On the women’s side Petree also helped develop Eastern Michigan University’s career scoring leader Tavelyn James. James played for Team USA in the Pan American games before signing with the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx. Petree worked with EMU during to the team’s 2012 Mid-American Conference championship season.

Greg Grays has been working as a basketball trainer since 2004. Greg graduated from Southfield Lathrup High School in 1997 where he led the state of Michigan in scoring at 32.5 ppg. His career high for high school was 60 points. Greg won a national AAU championship with the Michigan Mustangs in the 16 and Under Division as the leading scorer of the team. Greg received the All-Tournament Team Award in the Adidas Big Time Tournament in 1996. After high school, Greg went on to play for Penn State University for two years and completed his collegiate career at the University of Detroit-Mercy. Greg averaged 17.8 ppg his senior year at the University of Detroit-Mercy with admirations of playing professional basketball. After graduating, Greg worked out with the Toronto Raptors and Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA. After learning valuable skills and techniques through those experiences, he began playing professional basketball overseas. In 11 years of playing professional basketball, Greg shot over 44% from the 3-point line. His season high 3-point percentage was 56%. Greg has earned valuable basketball experiences in more than a decade overseas in Turkey, Belgium, France, Venezuela, Bosnia, Israel, Argentina and Mexico. Greg has trained hundreds of boys and girls since joining Getskillz in 2012.


Scott Wharam has been working as a basketball trainer with Get Skillz since 2015. Scott graduated from Manchester High School in 2011. After several years of training with Get Skillz, he was named second team All-Conference and Academic All-Conference in the Cascades Conference. After high school, Scott went on to play four years of collegiate basketball and serve as captain for the Kalamazoo College basketball team. While at Kalamazoo College, Scott was named to the NABC Honors Court and nominated to the Allstate NABC Good Works Team in 2015. Scott began working with Get Skillz following graduation in 2015 and has since trained hundreds of boys and girls in the Detroit area.

Strength & Conditioning Training (Functional Movement Training)

A One Hour training session, that is focused on enhancing an athlete’s speed, strength and explosiveness by targeting fast twitch muscle fibers and multiple energy systems. Athletes will learn proper movement patterns, form, core stability, and agility. All while developing their physical and mental toughness in a competitive environment. Training is done using resistance and selective free weight along with advanced technology from the Strength and Conditioning industry. Such as the Vertimax V8 and VersaClimber.
